Production of Music Video - Domino Tutorial Part 2

Domino Tutorial Part 2
As a group we created a domino tutorial which would be used within our music. We followed the previous domino tutorial video that Michaela made and developed it further by making the trail 3x longer in contrast to the the trail seen within the previous tutorial and created two images instead of one.

When building the domino images we decided to construct different sections of the images and then connect it all together. Mary and Tharek constructed the middle point and the end point of the long trail , which would allow the dominoes to fall one after the other and make the domino image fall aswel. Michaela and Amy continued the trail from the middle point to the tutorial linking the trail to the domino image.

As we had a large quantity of dominoes , it enabled us to make a  long trail and create domino images. We had to ensure that the dominoes where 2 gaps apart from each other so that it would not fall as quickly and had enough space to knock down the domino in front.

When building the domino images, we faced some challenging obstacles as the dominoes began to fall down as soon as we were near to finishing the domino trail . To stop the trail from knocking down , we decided to insert huge blocks as pointers throughout the trail to stop the dominoes from falling when building the trail. When the trail was completed , we removed the blocks and add the remaining domino pieces. We found this technique helpful as it saved us a bit of time from constructing the entire trail again.

As Mary and Tharek finished of the trail, Michaela and Amy began to build the image of a domino piece. We had to count the remaining domino pieces and see which colours we had a good quantity of. We found that We had alot of blue , green , yellow and brown left, So decided to build the domino in those colours.

When both the image and domino trail was complete, We used the cameras to film the knocking down of the dominoes at a worms eye view (low angle shot) and a birds eye view ( high angle shot ) , to have a variation of different shots to use when editing.

When the trail began to knock down, Tharek had to track the movements of the trail. He had to ensure that he followed the dominoes at the same pace as they knocked down one after the other. He started filming the trail and image from the bottom of the trail. In contrast , Mary filmed the trail from the beginning ,where the image was positioned. This was shot at a low angle shot  (worms eye view) , which showed a close up of the domino images and a close up of the trail. The effect of this shot makes the audience feel as if the dominoes are coming towards them when they fall one after the other.

Successfully , majority of the dominoes fell. Some remained standing. When that happened we had to re-shoot them falling by knocking them down physically. Through editing, were hoping to cut out the element of when you see a hand knocking one domino and connect the shot to the previous shots where all the dominoes fell successfully.

We  then focused on constructing the word domino which was a bit more challenging. We agreed to construct each letter separately and then when finished connect the letters together. When having to connect the letters together we found that it worked as the dominoes all fell down before we anticipated it to fall. We had to then reconstruct the image before a number of times until it was successfully. We also had the help of our teacher ' Tony' who gave us a helping hand and kept the positivity within the group. Tharek shot the dominoes falling within the image at a high angle shot , so the audience could see the image clearing .

After a long tiring day and lots of perseverance, we successfully created two successful art out of dominoes. We went through some challenging obstacles and bumps along the way , but that needed stop us from accomplishing what we wanted.
