EVALUATION - what have you learned from your audience feedback?

EVALUATION - how did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

during the process of making our music video, there was alot of media technologies used.

EVALUATION - how effective is the combination of your main product (video and ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement)?

a sucessful music video has links between the music video and the ancillary products (the digipak and advertisement) i think that my ancillary products has some link in the ways that we are trying to promote the artist, this is shown by the use of using four different pictures, doing different silly poses, this shows that the artist is fun and outgoing, just wanting to live life to the fullest. We have shown this in the music video aswell, by the use of the artsist doing silly things, -dancing around, strumming a guitar.

this gives the audience an understanding between the two, they can see that the artist is herself and doesn't care what other people think, both the digipak and music video how this.

EVALUATION - in what ways does your media product use, develop or challange forms and conventions of real media products?

when making our music video, we got some inspiration from other music videos of different genres and combined them with our own ideas. When we had chosen our genre of music we were making our music video for, we stared to look at that specific in more detail. this, which was the pop genre.


As our artist is female, we wanted convey that, the representation of females. Not so much in which Laura Mulvey explains how men have the pleasure to look at women and fantasize what they should look like. We wanted to represent women as they are, just themselves not the way men ‘would like’ to see them. This moves onto amplification the theory of Andrew Godwin, this occurs when new meanings are introduced and do not contradict with the lyrics but add layers of meaning, in our music video, we added the layer of meaning, showing that women can be ‘sexy and free’ just the way they are. Our music video is also partly illustration, where the video tells the story of the lyrics. This is shown through the use of actions of the artist, -the strumming of the guitar and the beating of the bass drums. And also the use of dominoes, -the sun, moon and clock.


one of the music videos that influenced us was Lily Allen's music video LDN. We like the way the music video used the effect of changing the video from colour to a dull greyscale colour. this is effective and makes the video more interesting keeping the audience entertained.

-in this video, we also liked the use of costume, the way Lily Allen wears a dress with trainers, shows that she doesn't care about what other people think and that she wants to stand out and represent herself.

THE ADVERTISMENT.

for my advertisement, i wanted to use the front cover of my digipak, as the advertisement and album cover are very similar,  so i inserted the image of only the front cover and added text around it to make it look more like an advertisement, it was really was actually.

-this is how my advertisement looked like at first..

-then, i thought i should make it look a bit more interesting, so i added another image of the album cover behind the first, enlarged and tilted it a bit to the left, i thought that this would make my advertisement a bit more interesting.. 

-i also forgot to add the website of the artist, so i added that underneath the image, to promote the artist and make it clear for people to see..

-i set a opacity of 95% to the top image, as i wanted it to be slightly visible on top of the other image layer.

-and then, i decided that also look a bit plain still, so, still sticking to the colour scheme, i added a purple background behind the text to enhance it a bit more, making it a bit more readable and bold, standing out from the page..

-i also tilted the text box and over lapped it with the other text box, as i thought that it gave it a more interesting and quirky look..

CHANGES TO DIGIPAK.

- in todays lesson, i showed Tony my digipak and he gave me some feedback, he suggested that i should make the artists name on the front cover stand out more, as she is a new artist, we want her to to recognised. so i added another text behind it in white in order for the artist's name to stand out more.

-also, he said to add some text on the inside panel as there was space for some text to be placed. so instead, i just moved the text i originally had and moved it to the empty space, as where i had originally placed the text it was not really readable.

so, i was surfing the net today and come across the music video for domino..

 

-i just thought i'd do a blog post on it and comapare it to our music video, to see if some thing are similar/different to the original music video.

THE DIGIPAK.

We took alot of photos for our digipak's, I picked out four of the most strongest photos ans couldn't decide which of the four i should use, so instead i used all four. This changed my idea of having just one image, as shown on the mock-up.

- i think that using four different images will make my album cover look different and unique, as usually there is only one main image on the front of an album cover.

-using photoshop, I experimented with different effects to see if it would make the image look better and more professional.

-this effect is called 'Crosshatch', it makes the images look slighty cartoon, which adds to the idea of being 'different and standing out from the crowd'.

-then i used this site called rollip.com and found an interesting effect in the 'Classics' category. This effect makes the images look quite vintage and i think it goes well with the colour scheme of black, white and purple. Also, as the colour of the image is not that bright, the text will stand out more.

- I started off with the images with the cross hatch effect and a white background and decided that it looked really plain and didn't stand out at all..

-then i used the images with the classic effect and a black background, which made it look more appealing.

- i wanted my digipak to look quite simple, with not alot going on, making it look too busy. So i put splat shapes to make it look a bit edgy and fun, but keeping it still quite simple with the basic colours and fonts.

- meh, then decided that the splats looked a bit childish, so i used triangle shapes instead and added another image of the artist using the same effect as the one on the front of the album.

Photoshoot Behind The Scenes

Today we had a photoshoot.... well something similar to that. We didnt have much locations but we were sure that we wanted to film in front of a white wall. We found a place on the lower ground of the college and we took pictures there. Then we went outside and took really good pictures out there. I decided to start filming the behind the scenes so that you could see what we got up to.
I forgot to film the stuff that we did inside.


1st up just a couple of pictures of stylist Chau putting fake lashes on Michaela.  Then after that a few pics from outside in the park field whatever.

We looked at previous students digipaks to help us get an idea of what to include and looked at the strengths and weaknesses to get an idea of what does and doesn't work well on a digipak.

 -in this digipak the colours go well with each other

PHOTOSHOP PRACTICE

 

when using photoshop, we use 'layers', this is so that you don't have to start all over again if something didn't look right or if you made a mistake, you would just go back to the layer.

In class, we made a practise album cover using pictures of Dan, to help us get familiar with using photoshop in order for our own album covers to look professional.
i used the colour scheme of black, gold and white, and kept it simple.

FEEDBACK

-today we went to the cinema to watch our music videos.
this was a good experience as it allowed us to see the other groups music videos and give each other feedback.
