Planning Ancillary Products - Practise of effects using Photobucket

 Effect practise using Photobucket

I decided to have practise using the program Photobucket to edit some potential photos that I would use for my digipak. I explored a number of different effects on Photobucket, this allowed me to become familiar using the program and have an idea on what kind of effects I would want to use. I explored and tested the following effects.
The Colour Splash Effect
This screen shot illustrates the ' Colour Splash' effect. To apply this effect , applied the colour splash effect onto the images, this would disaturate the colour of the images , a small brush then appeared that would enable me to brush over parts of the images where I wanted to show a splash of colour. As in the previous images of the artist , the artist was already wearing red lipstick, I wanted to keep the colour red in the image but eliminate the remaining colours within the image. I then brushed over the lips were the colour red appeared. I continued this process for the remaining images to come up with this outcome. It was my first time using the 'color splash' effect but I feel it looks quite creative and brings a fun element to the image. I also felt that it was something different , something that you wouldn't really see on a digipak.

I feel this is a potential effect that i'll be using for my digipak. Thumbs up.
The Duo Tone effect
This screen shot illustrates the ' Duo tone ' effect. This effect would change the overall colours seen on the image , making you only have two colours , one used for the background colour of the image and one to highlight the features seen within the image. I decided to try this effect as I felt it would bring a splash of colour to my digipak , I also felt that it was something different to use in contrast to seeing the artist image always in the normal format. I applied the colours black and purple to the images  as they were the overall colour scheme alongside white. I decided to use purple for the background and black to highlight the features as  when I tried it the reverse position of using black for the background and purple to highlight the features , I felt it didn't work well. This could be a possible effect I could use , but feel that the purple I chose was a bit dark. I would probably choose a lighter purple next time.
The Tint Effect
This screen shot illustrates a 'Tint' effect added on to the images. The purpose of the tint effect changes the overall colour of the image. I selected the image that I applied the colour splash effect on as I wanted to highlight the red lips. I then applied the tint effect on the images and chose the colour I wanted to use. I chose a lighter purple in contrast to the purple used in the 'duo tone' effect images. I felt again it worked quite well as the red really pops against the purple background. This is another possible effect because I like the fact that three colours are being shown and all work well against eachother.

This screen shot illustrates the tint effec applied again to the images , this time just with a different shade of purple applied to the images. At this point I was playing around the different shades of purple. I don't think this colour worked well in contrast to the previous purple.
The Curve tool
This screen shot shows the curve tool being used to modify the images. The use of the curve tool , smoothes the images and brightens up the overall appearance of the images. Using this tool , I feel that it made some change to the images but it was dramatic. If I had to smooth out the images alot then this would be a significant tool to use, other then that I don't think I would be using it that much.

Overall , I feel that this practise has helped me alot as it has enabled me in becoming more familiar with the program and the different features. It also gives me an advantage , as when I am creating my ancillary products I will have an idea ov possible effects that I would want and need to use.
